My friend – KC, had randomly stumbled upon this cozy little
café : Fishee Coffee Café in Esplanad Bukit Jalil, KL one day and suggested I
give it a try first and tell him how it fared.

This place is not difficult to find if you are familiar with
the Bukit Jalil area and the Esplanad shophouses. It’s the same row as the huge
beauty / spa salon at the corner which you can see from the main road at the
traffic lights but tucked away on the 1st floor, a few doors away
from the food court at the other end of the row.

I heard that this place is still relatively new, just barely
a month old. They have a tagline : A Coffee Junkie Place. Sounds pretty cool to
a diehard coffee junkie like me.
You will see this cute little signage placed at the bottom
of the stairs leading up to the main entrance on the 1st floor. I am
made to understand later, that this is the logo of their signature “Fishee
Ball” dessert.

The “Fishee Ball” is essentially a baked compact, cheese cake
with hints of oreo and caramel (I think) and coated with dark Belgian chocolate
on the outside. It’s made to look like a fish but I think it looks more like
those little black ghostly critters you see in the film : “My friend, Totorro”!
They cost RM13 each and is an absolute must for cheesecake lovers out there.
The drinks menu offered the standard selection of coffees
(Black, White, Brown) : Lattes, Cappucino, Flat White, Americano, Macchiato.
They also had a “Red Expresso” selection which is actually 100% premium expresso-ground
Rooibos tea added to your coffee). There are juices, Hot Chocolate (RM10) and
Mocha (RM11) and a wide selection of teas on offer as well. Prices for the drinks with
the exception of the Hot Chocolate and Mocha, were not steep ranging from RM6
to RM9 and with no GST. Yippee!
On the food menu, they had a small range of cakes, cookies,
croissants, waffles and the “Fishee Ball” of course! However, there was a
smaller variety of waffles, compared to “The Owl’s” café in Bukit Jalil.
I noticed that there were just three types on the menu : The
Classic Gold Waffle (RM8), Fancy Brown (RM15) and the Fruity Waffle (RM16), but
you could add toppings and ice-cream to the waffles if you wanted for addition
RM2+ to RM5+.
I ordered a Classic
Gold Waffle without any toppings, just your standard butter (RM8), a Flat White
(RM8) and a Fishee Ball (RM13).

The Classic Gold Waffle was not bad. Crispy but the size was
much smaller than the one served at “The Owl’s” café and not nearly as
fragrant. But still ok.

| Flat White |
The Flat White wasn’t too bad but could be improved. The
owner however was very kind to make it to the temperature I desired which is
steaming hot! I don’t know about you but I dislike cold coffee. There’s nothing
nicer than to be served a steaming mug of coffee in my opinion.
Ahem, now about the “Fishee Ball”… I fell in love with it
upon the first bite! It’s not too sweet, and not as rich as a chocolate cake,
so yummilicious! You will have to wait for it to melt a little, before taking
your first bite, because it’s a bit hard when the server initially remove it
from the cake display to serve you. That’s understandable seeing it’s a cheese
cake and needs to be kept under a certain temperature. Highly recommended, two
thumbs up and all toes wagging for their signature dessert!

The owner and his wife are friendly. The café is supposedly
named after his wife! She was so kind to let me sample her home-baked chocolate
chip cookie for free.

The place is wide and spacious, simply decorated and divided
into various areas or corners with different themes. There was the homely theme
corner, the row of barstools against the big windows area, the guitar and sofa
corner, the work desk corner and the wooden tables and chairs corner with lots
of plump, comfy cushions.

Perhaps because they are still new, there wasn’t many
customers here yet hence I almost had the whole place to myself with only a few
customers sharing the café with me at brief intervals.
The main thing I loved about this café besides the roomy,
simple décor and the “Fishee Ball” is the Korean pop music they played
endlessly. Truly awesome and brings back memories of my time in South Korea.
On my second visit, Penny another of my friends, tried the
Fruity Waffle and it was good but the combination of strawberries and
blueberries were perhaps a bit too sour for us.
